JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. | The Young Harris College baseball team scored seven runs over the final three innings to rally for a 10-7 non-conference victory over Carson-Newman University Tuesday (Feb. 28) afternoon at the Silver Diamond Complex.
The No. 30 Mountain Lions improved to 11-5, while the Eagles fell to 6-10. Young Harris returns to Zell B. Miller Field Friday (March 3) when they host Georgia College & State University in a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings. Jackson Kemp hit the first of his two home runs - a two-run shot to left-center field in the second. Jarrett Ford added a solo shot - his second of the season - to left-center field an inning later.
- The Eagles took a 6-3 lead with two runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth.Â
- The Mountain Lions pushed across three runs in the seventh to tie the game at 6. Marco Colina stroked a two-run double down the right field line and then later scored on a wild pitch.
- After Carson-Newman scored a run in the bottom of the seventh. YHC reclaimed the lead for good in the eighth with two runs. Jeremy Begora had a sacrifice fly and James Basham added a RBI double to left-center field.
- The Mountain Lions scored their final two runs in the ninth. Kemp added his fourth homer of the season - a solo shot to left - and Begora, who had reached on a single, scored on a wild pitch.
- Michael Buice (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief. He also recorded four strikeouts.
- The Mountain Lions had 13 hits with Kemp and Basham leading the way with three apiece. Colina, Ford and Begora tallied two hits each.
