YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College scored six goals in the second half as the Mountain Lions rallied for an 11-10 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Newberry College at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Saturday (Feb. 11) afternoon.
The Mountain Lions improved to 2-0 and they will host No. 13 Wingate University in an 11 a.m. match Sunday (Feb. 12). The Wolves fell to 0-1.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris got back-to-back man-down goals from Ella Hancock and Mary Troyer to tie the match at 4 with 5:56 left in the second quarter.
- Newberry scored the next three goals before Ally Cattoni found the back of the next with 3:05 left remaining before halftime.
- The Mountain Lions scored five of the six goals scored in the third quarter as YHC opened up a 10-8 advantage. Troyer, Cattoni, Hancock, Morgan Lewis and Ashlyn Fraley each found the back of the next in the quarter.
- Emily Flynt scored 48 seconds into the fourth quarter to give YHC an 11-8.
- Newberry pulled within a goal at 11-10 with 3:20 to play, but they Wolves couldn't find the tying goal.
- Hancock, Belle Hardwick, Cattoni and Troyer each scored two goals for the Mountain Lions, while Flynt, Lewis, Fraley each scored once.
- Ruthie Mandell distributed two assists, while Hancock, Flynt, and Hardwick each posted one.
- YHC had 11 draw controls with Troyer claiming three, while Hancock and Kinsley Purser had two each.
- Purser registered three caused turnovers, while Hardwick had two.
- Purser corralled five ground balls for the Mountain Lions, while Hardwick, Lewis and Maddy Meyers had three each.
- McKenna Graf (12) and Meyers (8) combined for 20 save in the YHC goal as they faced 36 Newberry shots.
