Young Harris starts 2022 campaign at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. | The Young Harris College men's cross country team opened their 2022 campaign Friday (Sept. 2) evening at the Eye Opener hosted by the University of South Carolina Upstate at the Milliken Research Center.

The Mountain Lions finished in ninth place overall with a 238 team score. NCAA Division I's Furman University won the meet with 29 points, 11 points better tha East Tennessee State University.

YHC returns to action next Friday (Sept. 9) at 5:30 p.m. when they compete at UNG Invitational in Oakwood, Georgia.

INSIDE THE RESULTS:
  • Liam King was the top runner for YHC on the 8K course with a time of 28:22.2 and finished in 40th place overall.
  • Freshman Dylan DiCicco just missed a top-50 finish as his time of 28:52.9 was good for 52nd place.
  • Freshman Noah Mason (29:33.4) came in 60th place, while fellow newcomer Andrew Baum (29:38.0) finished in 62nd.
  • Freshman Matthew Honeycutt  was 65th with an effort of 29:49.3, while Jack Rush had a time of 30:23.2 and came in 72nd place.
  • Hayden Durrett (31:04.0, 77th), Thomas Mellendorf (31:12.4, 79th) and Luke Surowiec (31:18.4, 80th) finished within 14 seconds of each other.
  • Austin Sever ran a time of 34:44.5 for 106th place, while Wesley Daniel had time of 35:19.4 and came in 110th.
  • The Mountain Lions finished fifth out the nine non-Division I schools at the meet.
