YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College baseball team opened their Peach Belt Conference series against the University of South Carolina-Aiken with a 9-2 victory Thursday (April 14) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 27-12 overall with their sixth consecutive win and to 12-7 in the PBC, while the Pacers fell to 17-21 and 9-10. The two teams will play the middle game of their series with a 3 p.m. contest Friday (April 15).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- YHC starter Mason Herbert (3-2) didn't allow a hit until Josh Sharp led off the eighth inning with a high slow bouncer deep in the hole at short. Herbert only allowed two hits and struck out three in his 7.0+ innings.
- McLain Harris notched his fifth save of 2022 with two scoreless innings of relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out two.
- Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jackson Jones and Rome Wallace started the rally with back-to-back singles. After Marco Colina was hit by a pitch, Steven Spell's double to right scored Jones and Wallace.
- The Mountain Lions added three more runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth.
- Jones and Wallace each drove in runs with singles in the seventh, while Noah Fitzgerald added a two-run single in the eighth.Â
- Young Harris collected 13 hits against four Pacer pitchers. Wallace led the way with three, while Logan Worley, Ethan Underwood, Jones and Kyle Ayers had two each.
