YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Jorge Arispuro hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the 12th inning as the University of North Georgia baseball team outlasted Young Harris College 6-5 in a Peach Belt Conference game Friday (April 1) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Nighthawks improved to 21-11 overall and to 8-5, while the Mountain Lions fell to 21-10 and 8-5. The second game in the weekend series between Blood Mountain rivals takes place Saturday (April 2) at 2 p.m.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Young Harris forced the extra innings as Logan Worley led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a first-pitch home run to left field to tie the game at 5. It was his first of the season.
- Worley's long ball was one of three for the Mountain Lions. Mark Castle had a solo home run to left field for his third of the season, while Jackson Jones led off the fifth with a long ball to right field for his seventh of 2020.
- Ethan Underwood added a RBI fielder's choice in the third, while Steven Spell contributed a run-scoring single to left field in the fifth.
- McLain Harris (5-2) took the loss for the Mountain Lions as he allowed two earned runs and struck out six in 6.1 innings of relief.
- Jake Arnold (3-0) allowed just the Worley homer and struck out seven in 5.2 innings of relief for North Georgia.
- Spell led the Mountain Lions with three hits, while Underwood, Marco Colina and Castle had two hits.
- YHC outhit UNG 14-8.
