MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | Young Harris College collected 14 hits as the No. 26-ranked Mountain Lions completed the Peach Belt Conference baseball series sweep of Georgia College with a 7-4 win Sunday (March 6) afternoon at John Kurtz Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 13-5 overall and to 3-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats slipped to 9-9 and 0-3. YHC will host Carson-Newman University at 3 p.m. Tuesday (March 8) at Zell B. Miller Field.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring twice in the second inning and pushing across another run an inning later.
- Steven Spell had and RBI double down the left field line in the second and YHC added run thanks to one of four Bobcat miscues. Noah Fitzgerald drove in a run in the third on his double down left field line.
- After Georgia College closed to 3-2 with single runs in the third and fourth innings, the Mountain Lions broke open the game with a four-run fifth inning. Kyle Ayers had the big hit - a two-run single to right - in the rally.
- Mark Castle led the YHC hit parade with three hits, while Ayers, Ethan Underwood, Fitzgerald, and Jackson Jones had two hits apiece.
- Travis Burnette (2-0) earned the win for the Mountain Lions, while Brody Meeks pitched the final 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first save.
