Mountain Lions sweep Augusta in baseball marathon

AUGUSTA, Ga. | The Young Harris College baseball team swept three Peach Belt Conference games from Augusta University Sunday (March 13)  at Jaguar Field.

The Mountain Lions completed the suspended game from Saturday with a 13-3 win in seven innings. YHC then won both ends of the regularly scheduled doubleheader by scores of 10-6 and 12-8.

The No. 24 Mountain Lions improved to 16-5 overall and to 6-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Jaguars fell to 7-13 and 0-6.  The Mountain Lions return to action Tuesday (March 15) with a 4 p.m. regional matchup against Tusculum University at Zell B. Miller Field. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

GAME ONE
  • Young Harris and Augusta resumed the suspended game in the second inning with a 4-3 lead.
  • Cole Edwards (2-0) recorded the win in relief for the Mountain Lions, Edwards pitched six innings.
  • Ethan Underwood and Rome Wallace had multi-hit games.
  • Wallace had a two-run RBI in the first inning as well as a three-run home run to highlight a seven-run sixth inning.. 
GAME TWO
  • Travis Burnette (3-0) earned the win for YHC. Burnette pitched seven scoreless innings scattering only three hits and struck out nine batters faced.
  • Mark Castle hit a two-run home run - his second of the season.
  • Underwood had a multi-hit game including a two-run double.
