No. 20 Mountain Lions get ninth straight win with 5-4 victory over Tusculum

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The 20th-ranked Young Harris College baseball team picked up a 5-4 midweek win over Tusculum University Tuesday (March 15) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

Young Harris improved to 17-5 while the Pioneers fell to 10-12. Young Harris returns to action Friday (March 18) with a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference matchup against Flagler College.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Ethan Underwood led YHC with three hits. Marco Colina, Jackson Jones, and Rome Wallace had two hits apiece.
  • Young Harris got ahead 2-0 in the first inning after a sacrifice fly by Noah Fitzgerald scored Mark Castle and a Jones single through the right side scored Underwood.
  • Steven Spell's single in the fourth scored Jones to give the Mountain Lions a 3-1 lead.
  • The Pioneers were able to get one run across in the fifth, but Logan Worley's diving catch in the right center gap held the Pioneers from having a big inning.
  • Tusculum tied it up at three in the sixth, but Aaron Copeland hit a solo home run to left field - his first of the season - to give Young Harris the 4-3 lead.
  • The Mountain Lions added its final run of the game in the seventh off a double from Jones that scored Underwood.
  • Tusculum scored one run in the ninth to bring the score to 5-4, but that would be as close as the Pioneer offense would get off McLain Harris who earned the Mountain Lion save; his third of the season.
  • Dylan Beck (3-0) earned the win for YHC, while Tusculums Brice Anders (0-2) got the loss.
  • Colina, Underwood, and Wallace recorded one stolen base each for YHC.
