No. 26 Mountain Lions sweeps PBC doubleheader against Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. | The No. 26 Young Harris College baseball team picked up two Peach Belt Conference wins against Georgia College Saturday (March 5) afternoon at John Kurtz Field. 
 
The Mountain Lions won game one 5-4, and took game two 4-0. 
 
Young Harris improved to 12-5 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt, while the Bobcats fell to 9-8 and 0-2. The Mountain Lions wrap up the series against the Bobcats Sunday (March 6) with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
 
Game 1
  • Noah Fitzgerald and Jackson Jones connected on three hits each. Rome Wallace and Logan Worley had two apiece, while Marco Colina and Steven Spell had one hit each. 
  • Young Harris trailed by two runs going into the fourth inning, but Jones and Castle drove in one run each to tie the game up at two.
  • YHC took the lead 4-3 in the fifth off a sacrifice fly by Jones that scored Ethan Underwood.
  • GC tied it up at 4 in the sixth and the game remained tied until the ninth when YHC took the 5-4 lead on Wallace's single to center field.
  • McLain Harris (3-0) picked up the win for YHC. Harris pitched 3.2 scoreless innings and struck out two.
Game 2
  • Mark Castle homered – his first of the season - to left center to give Young Harris a 2-0 lead in the second. 
  • The Mountain Lions added its final runs in the fifth off RBI singles from Kyle Ayers and Underwood. 
  • YHC totaled eight hits including two apiece from Underwood,  Jones, and Castle.
  • Nate Lamb (2-2) earns the win for YHC. Lamb pitched the complete game seven-inning shutout, allowing six hits and struck out a career-high seven.
