HICKORY, N.C. | The Young Harris College women's lacrosse team earned a 17-10 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne in Tuesday (March 22) afternoon's contest at Mortez Stadium.
The Mountain Lions improved to 6-6, while the Bears fell to 4-5. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (March 22) with a Gulf South Conference matchup against Flagler College at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field. Saturday's contest between the Mountain Lions and the Saints will be a Mental Health Awareness game in dedication to spreading awareness about mental health through Morgan's Message.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- With the game tied at 10 after Lenoir-Rhyne scored a man-up goal with 2:21 left in the third quarter, the Mountain Lions held the Bears scoreless for the final 17:21 of the match as they scored seven unanswered goals. Ella Hancock's goal off a Ruthie Mandell assist with 2:05 left in the third quarter gave YHC the lead for good at 11-10.
- Taylor Greenberg and Kinsley Purser led YHC with four goals each. Morgan Lewis scored three, while Hancock added two. Emily Flynt, Mandell, Ally Cattoni, and Parker Vaughan each scored one.
- Purser also tallied four assists, while Mandell and Hancock had two apiece. Greenberg, Flynt and Lewis each recorded one.
- The Mountain Lions totaled 20 ground balls in the contest. Purser and Flynt led with three, while Gwenyth Gibbons, Greenburg, Eryn Brown, and Morgan Lewis grabbed two each.
- Hancock and Purser combined for seven caused turnovers.
- Hancock and Purser led YHC in draw controls. Hancock grabbed nine and Purser eight. The Mountain Lions held a 22-9 edge over the Bears in draw controls.
- Rachel Robb had seven saves in goal for Young Harris, while Maddy Meyers had two.
