YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as trhe 20th-ranked Mountain Lions recorded a 5-2 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Flagler College in the series finale Sunday (March 20) afternoon at Zell B. Miller FIeld.
The Mountain Lions improved to 18-7 overall and to 7-2 in the Peach Belt, while the Saints fell to 14-11 and 7-2. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (March 22) with a 5 p.m. non-conference contest against Mars Hill University at home.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- After Flagler scored in the top of the fourth, the Mountain Lions broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning as YHC collected five hits.
- With the bases loaded, Mark Castle tied the game at 1 on a sacrifice fly to left field. Marco Colina added a two-run single up the middle to give YHC a 3-1 lead. Ethan Underwood drove in a run with a single through the left side, while Rome Wallace added a sacrifice fly to left-center.
- The Saints added a run in the seventh to get with in three runs at 5-2, but they couldn't get any closer. Flagler stranded eight runners over the game's final three innings.
- Kyle Ayers led the Mountain Lions with three hits, while Colina tallied two. Colina, Wallace and Logan Worley each smacked a double.
- Nate Lamb (3-2) earned the win as he allowed just three hits and one unearned run, while striking out six.
- Brody Meeks earned his second save of 2022 by striking our both batters he faced in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded.
