YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Herris College women's lacrosse team reeled off 18 unanswered goals to end the game as the Mountaiin Lions flew by the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University on a frigid Saturday (March 12) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions won their fourth consecutive match as they improved to 5-6. YHC handed the Stormy Petrels their first loss of 2022 as they fell to 6-1. Young Harris returns to action March 22 when they travel to Hickory, North Carolina, for s 4 p.m. contest against Lenoir-Rhyne University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- After Oglethorpe tied the match at 5 on an Ally Moir goal with 6:02 left in the second quarter, the Mountain Lions took the lead for good on Emily Flynt's strike with 2:56 to go.
- Ella Hancock added a goal 10 seconds later and Kinsley Purser and Taylor Greenberg added back-to-back goals in the final 18 seconds as the Mountain Lions took a 9-5 lead at the half.
- YHC outscored the Stormy Petrels 14-0 in the second half. They scored eight times in the third quarter and added six more goals in the final 15 minutes.
- Flynt led the Mountain Lions with four goals, while Hancock, Greenberg and Purser each tallied three goals. Ally Cattoni, Ruthie Mandell, Felisse Richard and Parker Vaughan each accounted for two goals, while Ashlyn Fraley and Belle Hardwick found the back of the net once.
- Hancock dished out five assists, while Purser accumulated four. Cattoni tallied two, while Greenberg, Flynt, Fraley, Hardwick and Mandell had one apiece.
- YHC outshot Oglethorpe 45-25, forced 27 Stormy Petrel turnovers and had a 27-19 edge in ground balls.
- Purser led the Mountain Lions with seven draw controls, while Hancock had four and Flynt posted three more.
- Hancock scooped up eight ground balls, while Eryn Brown corraled four more.
- Hancock and Brown each caused three turnovers, while Fraley had two more.
- Rachel Robb recorded 11 saves in net for the Mountain Lions, while Maddy Meyers collected two.
