LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The Young Harris College baseball team picked up a seires win against the University of West Alabama 7-6 Sunday (Feb. 27) afternoon at Tartt Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 9-5, while the Tigers fell to 4-12. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (March 1) against the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Zell B. Miller Field.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- West Alabama got on top 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning after back-too-back singles from Josh Bower and Connor Christian led to a big inning for the Tigers.
- Young Harris answered back in the top of the fifth and scored its first run off an Ethan Underwood single up the middle that scored Kyle Ayers.
- Young Harris added two runs in the sixth after Jackson Jones roped a long ball - his second of the season - to right field and Ayers doubled to right center, but trailed West Alabama 4-3.
- McLain Harris (2-0) earned the win for the Mountain Lions.
- The Mountain Lions rallied in the top of the ninth to score four runs that would be what they needed to hold the Tigers off in the deciding game.
- Noah Fitzgerald had the clutch double to the right center gap that tied the game up at 5. Mark Castle added a sacrifice fly and Steven Spell added the final runs of the Mountain Lion rally on a single to the right side.
- Young Harris totaled 14 hits. Ayers and Underwood tailed three each, while Rome Wallace had two.
