LIVINGSTON, Ala. | No. 26 Young Harris College and the University of West Alabama split a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 26) afternoon at Tartt Stadium.
The Mountain Lions won the opener 9-3 before the Tigers earned a split with an 8-0 decision in the nightcap. The Mountain Lions improved to 8-5, while the Tigers fell to 4-11. The teams wrap up their three-game series Sunday (Feb. 27) at 1 p.m. Central time.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- The Mountain Lions took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Noah Fitzgerald and Jackson Jones.
- After UWA tied the game at 2, YHC broke the game open in the sixth with five runs. Marco Colina had a two-run double to right-center field, while Kyle Ayers and Ethan Underwood had back-to-back RBI doubles.
- Ayers added an RBI single in the seventh and Fitzgerald led off the eighth with a homer to left-center field. It was Fitzgerald's third long ball of the season.
- Mason Herbert struck out seven in six innings to earn the win and go to 1-1, while Travis Burnette registered his first save with five strikeouts in three innings.
- Ayers, Underwood, Fitzgerald and Colina had two hits each.
Game 2
- The Mountain Lions committed seven errors in the nightcap that led to five unearned runs.
- Jones and Rome Wallace had two hits each for Young Harris.
- Nate Lamb (1-2) struck out five in 4.2 innings.
