YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Noah Fitzgerald drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth as No. 26 Young Harris College rallied for a 6-5 non-conference baseball victory over Mississippi College Sunday (Feb. 13) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions, who won the series with the Choctaws, improved to 5-1, while Mississippi College fell to 2-5. YHC hits the road for the first time this season as they head to Cleveland, Tennessee, for a 3 p.m. game Wednesday (Feb. 16) against No. 17 Lee University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- With the score tied at 5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Mark Castle and Logan Worley started the inning with back-to-back singles. Kyle Ayers loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Fitzgerald coaxed an one-out walk on a 3-2 pitch to give the Mountain Lions the win.
- Fitzgerald tied the game at 1 with a solo homer to left field in the fourth inning. It was Fitzgerald's second long ball of the season.
- YHC tied the game at 2 after Ethan Underwood launched a solo home run to right field in the sixth inning.
- Mississippi College scored three times in its half of the seventh, before the Mountain Lions tied the game at 5 after a three-run eighth inning. Underwood had run-scoring single to left, before Rome Wallace stroked a two-run single to left.
- Young Harris had 10 hits with Worley, Underwood and Wallace each collecting two apiece.
- Brody Meeks (2-0) earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. Meeks didn't allow a hit and struck out five.
