YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College and Mississippi College split a baseball doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 12) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Choctaws opened up a 5-0 lead in the opener before holding off the No. 26 Mountain Lions 6-5. Young Harris scored three runs in the sixth inning to take the nightcap 4-1. The two teams wrap up their weekend series with a 1 p.m. game Sunday (Feb. 13).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- After a four-run fourth inning gave Mississippi College a 5-0 lead, the Mountain Lions got to within 5-4 in the seventh.
- The Mountain Lions got their first run on a Choctaw error in the fifth before scoring three times in the seventh. Kyle Ayers drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk before Jackson Jones' two-run single to left.
- Mississippi College got a run back in the eighth to take a 6-4 lead.
- Young Harris got a run back in the ninth on a Logan Worley ground out.
- Chad Brown (0-1) took the loss.
Game 2
- The Choctaws took a 1-0 lead in the second on an unearned run before the Mountain Lions tied the game in the third inning on Noah Fitzgerald's single to center field.
- It would remain tied until the bottom of the sixth when YHC pushed across three runs.Ethan Underwood gave the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead on his RBI single to left field that scored Fitzgerald, who left off the inning with a walk and then stole second.
- Jackson Kemp added a run-scoring single through the left side before Brandon Jolliff contributed a sacrifice fly to right.
- Nate Lamb (1-0) earned the win, allowed four hits and striking out six.
- McLain Harris earned his second save of 2022 with a scoreless seventh.
