Mountain Lions come in seventh place at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. | The Young Harris College men's cross country team finished in seventh place Friday (Sept. 3) evening at the season opening Eye Opener.

The Mountain Lions return to action next Friday (Sept. 10) evening at the UNG Invitational in Oakwood, Georgia.

INSIDE THE MEET RESULTS:
  • The Mountain scored 207 points in the race.
  • Fellow Peach Belt Conference member Augusta University won the 12-team race with 21 points, 35 clear of event host University of South Carolina Upstate.
  • YHC was one of nine non-NCAA Division II teams competing in the 8K race on the Milliken Research Park Course, which will be the site of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship in November.
  • Kai Vigardt was the top Mountain Lion in the field with a time of 29:31.1 and came in 46th place, while teammate Jack Rush was close behind in 48th with a time of 29:40.0.
  • Luke Surowiec came in 52nd place with a time of 29;50.2, while Thomas Mellendorf was 55th after a time of 30:06.6.
  • Liam King had a time of 30:10.1 and came in 56th place, while Hunter Payne was 65th with an effort of 31:01.7.
  • Hayden Durrett posted a time of 32.34.2 to place 73rd.
