Young Harris wraps up season at Peach Belt Championship

OAKWOOD, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's cross country team wrapped up their abbreviated 2020 campaign at the Peach Belt Conference Championship hosted by the University of North Georgia Saturday (Nov. 14) morning.

The Mountain Lions finished in sixth place overall with 173 points. Augusta University won its second consecutive PBC title and third in the past four seasons with 24 points, to edge Flagler College by 23 points.

Josh Whedbee was the top Young Harris finisher on the 8K UNG Cross Country Course  with a time of 28:14.1 to finish in 25th place. Kai Vigardt lowered his personal best by 95 seconds as he came in 33rd place with a time of 28:54.6. Luke Surowiec, who was named to the PBC All-Sportsmanship Team, came in 34th place with a time of 29:02.9, while Thomas Mellendorf posted an effort of 29:46.2 and placed 38th. Hank Guinade clipped 15 seconds off his personal best with a time of 30:47.0 and came in 43rd place, while Nhan Le sliced four seconds off his personal best and came in 50th with a time of 32:25.6.

University of North Carolina at Pembroke's  Joshua Chepkesir became the first men's cross country runner in PBC history to win the individual championship for a third year in a row. The junior from Eldoret, Kenya, also broke the course record and broke his own PBC Championships record with a time of 23:41.83.
