Box Score HICKORY, N.C. | Young Harris College won four of the six singles matches to rally for a season-opening 6-3 non-conference men's tennis victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University Thursday (Feb. 1) afternoon at the YMCA of the Catawba Valley.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0 and they will return to action Tuesday (Feb. 6) with a 1 p.m. match against Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The Bears slipped to 3-2.
Lenoir-Rhyne took a 2-1 lead after doubles. The doubles win for YHC came at the No. 1 flight as
Alex Pavel and
Guilherme Sergio teammed up for an 8-7 win over their opposition.
The Mountain Lions tied the match at 3 as
Mateo Besada and Sergio picked up singles wins at No. 1 and No. 3 respectively. The Mountain Lions got a win from
Javier Villar at No. 4 before
Ignacio Ascarrunz clinched the match with a win at No. 6.
Tim Fleerkamp won the final point for Young Harris with a three-set win at No. 5.
