CENTRAL, S.C. | The Young Harris College women's lacrosse team delivered a statement performance to close the regular season, rolling to a 21-1 victory over Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Mountain Lions improve to 13-5 overall and a perfect 9-0 in Conference Carolinas play heading into the conference tournament, while Southern Wesleyan falls to 4-13 overall and 2-8 in league action.
Young Harris controlled the game from the opening draw, jumping out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and never looking back. The Mountain Lions outscored the Warriors 17-0 over the final three quarters, including dominant six-goal third and second periods to put the game out of reach early.
Erika Baalam led the offensive explosion with six goals, while Riley Parker added five goals and two assists. Addison Heiser totaled eight points with four goals and four assists, and Mary Troyer, who was named Player of the Game, finished with seven points on two goals and five assists while also controlling the draw with nine draw controls.
Gianna Lemieux contributed four points on two goals and two assists, and Sydney Craig added a goal and two assists in the win.
Defensively, the Mountain Lions were just as dominant, holding Southern Wesleyan scoreless for the final 45 minutes of play. McKenna Graf recorded four saves in the first half to earn the win, while Alyssa Rosenfeld added four saves in the second half to complete the effort.
Young Harris controlled all phases of the game, outshooting Southern Wesleyan 33-12, holding a 37-26 advantage in ground balls, and winning the draw control battle 16-7.
