Mountain Lions Take Doubleheader Over Shorter

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team earned a Conference Carolinas doubleheader sweep over Shorter on Friday afternoon, winning both games 5-3 to improve to 29-13 overall.

Game One: Young Harris 5, Shorter 3

The Mountain Lions came out swinging with a three-run first inning and held off a mid-game push from the Hawks to secure the opener.

Haley Cummings sparked the early offense with an RBI double before Mallory Clark and Anna Kate Hill followed with RBI singles to give Young Harris a 3-0 lead.

Shorter tied the game in the fourth with three unearned runs, but Young Harris answered immediately. Gracie Hughes delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth, and Addie Heal added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Lakely Parrish picked up the win in relief, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Julia Moore recorded the save, tossing the final two outs to secure her seventh of the season.

Game Two: Young Harris 5, Shorter 3

Young Harris used another late-game surge to complete the sweep, scoring three runs in the sixth inning to take control.

Trailing 3-1, the Mountain Lions chipped away with a run in the fifth before breaking through in the sixth. Anna Kate Hill tied the game with an RBI single, Jordan Morris followed with a go-ahead RBI, and Bailee Brown capped the inning with an RBI single to extend the lead.

Brown led the offense with a 2-for-4, three-RBI performance and was named Player of the Game.

Julia Moore tossed a complete game, allowing three unearned runs on 10 hits while striking out four to earn her 14th win of the season.
