Mountain Lions Dominate Flying Fleet in Doubleheader Sweep

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, sweeping Erskine College 9-0 and 12-0 at the YHC Softball Field. The Mountain Lions scored 21 runs across the two games while allowing just four hits in the doubleheader.

With the sweep, Young Harris improves to 11-11 overall and 3-1 in Conference Carolinas play.

Game One: Young Harris 9, Erskine 0 (5 innings)

The Mountain Lions broke things open early, scoring two runs in the first inning before erupting for six runs in the second to take control.

Haley Cummings started the scoring with an RBI double in the first, and Young Harris continued to pile on in the second inning behind run-scoring hits from Gracie Hughes, Mallory Clark, and Shayla Pennington. Hughes added a sacrifice fly in the third to cap the scoring.

Lilly Jones was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete game shutout. She allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out three across five innings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Shelby Duncan went three-for-three and scored two runs.

• Bailee Brown scored two runs and drove in two.

• Haley Cummings recorded a double and drove in two runs.

• Gracie Hughes had a double and three RBIs.

• Mallory Clark added a double and one RBI.

• Lilly Jones earned the win, allowing three hits and no runs in five innings.

Game Two: Young Harris 12, Erskine 0 (5 innings)

Young Harris kept the momentum rolling in the second game, scoring two runs in the first before exploding for five runs in the second inning and four more in the third.

Shelby Duncan led the offensive surge, finishing three-for-three with four RBIs and three runs scored. Gracie Hughes added two hits and two RBIs, while Haley Cummings recorded a double and drove in two more.

Julia Moore was outstanding in the circle, throwing a complete game one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

• Shelby Duncan went three-for-three with four RBIs and three runs scored.

• Gracie Hughes collected two hits and two RBIs.

• Haley Cummings doubled and drove in two runs.

• Jordan Morris scored two runs and drove in one.

• Julia Moore struck out eight in a complete game one-hit shutout.
