YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | In one of the wildest games of the season inside the Enchanted Valley, the Young Harris College baseball team rallied in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Tusculum, 14-13, on Tuesday afternoon.
Trailing 13-12 entering the final frame, the Mountain Lions refused to go quietly. After a leadoff single and a pitching change, Young Harris loaded the bases with one out before Jonny Smith delivered a clutch RBI single to tie the game at 13-13. Moments later, Jeo Hernandez capped off a monster day at the plate, ripping a walk-off single to center field to bring home the winning run and secure the comeback victory.
Tusculum struck early with two runs in the first and added another in the second, but the Mountain Lions answered throughout. Young Harris used a three-run fourth inning to take its first lead and followed with a four-run fifth to go up 10-7.
The Pioneers surged back with a four-run fifth inning and added four more in the sixth, highlighted by a pair of home runs from Nick Satterly, to reclaim the lead at 11-10. Hernandez responded in the bottom half of the sixth with a solo home run to tie the game once again at 11-11.
Tusculum regained the lead in the seventh and again in the ninth, but each time Young Harris had an answer. Drew Bray's RBI single in the eighth helped even the score at 12-12 before the dramatic ninth-inning finish sealed the victory.
Hernandez was the difference-maker for the Mountain Lions, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs, including the game-tying home run and the walk-off single.
