ROME, Ga. | The Young Harris College Men's Lacrosse team delivered a historic performance Monday (Feb. 23) evening, setting a new program record with 35 goals in a dominant 35-4 Conference Carolinas road victory over Shorter at Ben Brady Field.
The Mountain Lions erupted from the opening whistle, scoring eight first-quarter goals and never looking back. Young Harris built a 21-2 halftime lead before continuing the offensive surge in the second half, finishing with 52 shots, 43 shots on goal, and 44 ground balls in the statement win.
The victory marks the highest goal total in program history and gives Young Harris its first Conference Carolinas win of the season, improving to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
• Grady Stokes led the historic night with 7 goals on 8 shots, putting 7 on goal to pace the offense.
• John McElhenny recorded 4 goals and 1 assist for 5 points while adding 3 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.
• Colburn Connelly finished with 4 goals, scoring four times on four shots in a perfect shooting performance.
• Cooper Leonard added 3 goals and 1 assist for 4 points, contributing two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
• Gunnar Fagerstrom produced 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points, playing a major role as a facilitator in the offensive explosion.
• Noah Cosby scored 2 goals on four shots as Young Harris built its early separation.
• Gantt Jones added 2 goals, putting all four shots on target.
• A total of 18 different Mountain Lions scored, including single goals from Cason Diamond, Rory Smith, Anderson Kesinger, Aidan McGowen, Dane Dompier, Leo Rios, Logan Martucci, Kyristan Moffatt, Sam Marchello, Mathias Clark, and Henry Elliot.
• Aidan McGowen controlled the faceoff unit, going 14-for-20 with a team-high 7 ground balls.
• Leo Rios also contributed at the faceoff X, finishing 8-for-15 with 4 ground balls.
• Defensively, Young Harris held Shorter to just 18 shots and 7 shots on goal while forcing 20 turnovers.
• In goal, Jonah Polhemus earned the win after opening the game scoreless, while Thomas Castiglia and Andrew Stafford combined for 3 saves to close the night.
