YH Women’s Tennis Opens Conference Play with 4-3 Win Over NGU

TIGERVILLE, S.C. | The Young Harris College Women's Tennis team opened Conference Carolinas play with a tightly contested 4-3 victory over North Greenville on Saturday afternoon at the Vance Tennis Complex.

The Mountain Lions secured the doubles point and relied on clutch singles performances to capture the narrow conference win, improving to 2-2 overall on the season.

Young Harris claimed the early advantage in doubles play behind strong performances at the top and bottom of the lineup.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Futaba Saito and Maud Scholten earned a convincing 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

Tuva Asplund and Callie Stanfield secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory on court three.

Futaba Saito delivered a dominant straight-set win at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-2).

Viviana Gomez added a key point with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles (6-4, 6-4).

Lexie Gillespie provided the decisive point (earning player of the match honors), winning in straight sets at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-2).

• North Greenville captured three singles courts, but the Mountain Lions' depth proved to be the difference in the 4-3 decision.
