SUMTER, S.C. | The Young Harris College women's tennis team saw its Conference Carolinas Championship run come to an end with a 4-2 loss to Erskine on April 24 at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Semifinals: Erskine 4, Young Harris 2
The Mountain Lions opened strong by securing the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Futaba Saito and Maud Scholten earned a 6-1 victory at No. 1, while Lexie Gillespie and Callie Stanfield followed with a 6-4 win at No. 2.
In singles play, Erskine responded with wins at No. 3, No. 5, No. 1, and No. 4 to clinch the match. Ariana Jativa claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3, Barbara Brito followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5, and Hanna Vasconez added a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 1. Maria C. Padovani secured the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Young Harris picked up its second point at No. 6 singles as Lexie Gillespie earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory. The match at No. 2 singles went unfinished following the clinch.
