Balanced Attack Lifts Mountain Lions to First Win of 2026, 16–5 Over Emory & Henry

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College Mountain Lions secured their first victory of the 2026 season in dominant fashion Sunday afternoon (Feb. 15), defeating Emory & Henry 16–5 at home. Young Harris used a balanced offensive effort and strong possession play to pull away after a competitive opening quarter. 

The game was tied 2–2 at the end of the first, but the Mountain Lions outscored the Wasps 9–2 over the second and third quarters to take full control. Young Harris closed the contest with five fourth-quarter goals to seal the 11-goal win and improve to 1–3 on the season. 

Gunnar Fagerstrom led the charge with four goals, while Colburn Connelly added two goals and two assists. John McElhenny also scored twice, and 11 different Mountain Lions found the back of the net in a complete team performance. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Gunnar Fagerstrom recorded four goals on nine shots. 
  • Colburn Connelly tallied four points (2G, 2A). 
  • John McElhenny scored two goals on four shots on goal. 
  • Grady Stokes dished out three assists. 
  • Taiden Makubire racked up five caused turnovers and two ground balls. 
  • Young Harris outshot Emory & Henry 61–27 and held a 33–15 advantage in shots on goal. 
  • Young Harris won the faceoff battle 16–8 and held a 42–31 edge in ground balls. 
  • Jonah Polhemus earned the win in goal with 10 saves. 
  • Young Harris converted 1-of-3 extra-man opportunities while holding Emory & Henry scoreless on two chances. 
  • The Mountain Lions' defensive pressure forced 30 Emory & Henry turnovers and limited the Wasps to just three shots in the fourth quarter.
