Mountain Lions Take Three of Four at Brianna Surrento Kickoff Classic

GREENWOOD, S.C. | The Young Harris College Mountain Lions turned in a strong weekend at the Brianna Surrento Kickoff Classic, winning three of four games at Doug Spears Field. Young Harris earned victories over Middle Georgia, Lander, and Emory & Henry before falling in the finale to Lander. 

Game One: (Young Harris 8, Middle Georgia 0) 

Young Harris opened the weekend with a dominant shutout victory. Gracie Hughes led the offense early, driving in Haley Cummings with an RBI single in the first before adding an RBI double in the third to make it 2–0. The Mountain Lions broke the game open in the fifth, highlighted by a three-RBI double from Mallory Clark. Young Harris added two more runs in the sixth to cap the 8–0 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

Gracie Hughes went 3-for-3 with two RBI. 

Mallory Clark delivered a three-RBI double in the fifth inning. 

Hannah Davis added an RBI single in the fifth. 

• Young Harris totaled 10 hits. 

Lilly Jones (2-0) tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing five hits and striking out four. 

Game Two: (Young Harris 7, Lander 2) 

The Mountain Lions earned a statement win over Lander in game two, using a five-run third inning to seize control. Bailee Brown started the scoring with an RBI single before Gracie Hughes and Hannah Davis delivered key run-producing hits in the frame. Hughes later added a solo home run in the fifth to extend the lead. Julia Moore was outstanding in relief, shutting the door over the final 3.2 innings. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Gracie Hughes finished 2-for-3 with a double, home run, and two RBIs. 

Bailee Brown went 3-for-4 with an RBI. 

Hannah Davis drove in two runs. 

• Young Harris scored five runs in the third inning. 

Julia Moore (4-1) earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings and eight strikeouts. 

Game Three: (Young Harris 3, Emory & Henry 0) 

The Mountain Lions continued their momentum with another shutout victory on Saturday afternoon. Haley Cummings broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the sixth inning. Later in the frame, Aubree Reese singled home a run, and an Emory & Henry error allowed an additional run to score as Young Harris pulled away for the 3–0 win. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

Haley Cummings homered in the sixth inning. 

Aubree Reese recorded an RBI single. 

• Young Harris held Emory & Henry to just two hits. 

Abbie Burkett (1-0) earned the win with six scoreless innings. 

Julia Moore picked up her second save of the season. 

Game Four: (Lander 3, Young Harris 1) 

Young Harris closed the weekend with a tightly contested matchup against Lander. The Bearcats scored two runs in the first inning and added another in the third to build a 3–0 advantage. The Mountain Lions pushed across a run in the seventh on a Haley Cummings RBI groundout, but the comeback bid fell just short. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Young Harris recorded seven hits in the contest. 

  • Lilly Jones (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) in 2.1 innings. 

Up Next:

The Mountain Lions continue their early-season slate next week as Young Harris returns to the Enchanted Valley for a Saturday afternoon double header versus Lenoir-Rhyne.
