YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Mountain Lions Men's Basketball forward Carl Cleveland has been named the NCAA Division II Conference Information Directors of America (D2CIDA) National Player of the Week after a record-setting performance in two games this past week.
Cleveland was dominant for Young Harris, averaging 32 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while adding two assists and 1.5 steals as the Mountain Lions split their pair of contests. In an 84-79 loss to Georgia College & State University, Cleveland went 9-of-16 from the field and 6-of-8 at the free throw line to finish with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists. He followed that with one of the best games of his career in a 101-92 Conference Carolinas victory over Barton, tying his career high with 39 points and 11 rebounds to record his second double-double of the week.
Over the two outings, Cleveland poured in an incredible 64 points and collected 21 rebounds, shooting 54.2 percent from the field (19-of-35) and a combined 25-of-29 at the free throw line. His efficiency at the stripe was especially outstanding as he finished 19-of-21 from the line against Barton. The dominant stretch marked the fourth time this season that Cleveland has scored at least 30 points in a game and the 11th such performance of his Young Harris career.
With the two additional double-doubles, Cleveland earned Conference Carolinas Player of the Week honors, and he continues to climb the national leaderboard. His 33-career double-doubles are now the most of any active player in NCAA Division II.
The Mountain Lions return to action this week as Cleveland and Young Harris continue their push through the heart of their Conference Carolinas schedule.
