Young Harris, Ga | In this afternoon's matchup, it was all Mountain Lion action from both the plate and the circle in the double-header sweep over Belmont Abbey (Apr 9
th).
Grace Young was dominant at both the plate and in the circle; she fired five scoreless innings in game one, allowing only four hits while striking out two. In game two, Young was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
The Mountain Lions advance to 19-21 overall and are 10-10 in Conference Carolinas. The Crusaders move to 19-21 overall and are 6-12 in Conference Carolinas.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Game 1 (5 innings):
- Young Harris run-ruled the Crusaders through five innings with a final score of 11-0.
- The Mountain Lions jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first. Bailee Brown kicked things off with a triple, followed by Grace Young and Mallory Clark's RBI efforts.
- In the second inning, Avery Fielden put the ball into play through the left side for an RBI single. Gracie Hughes then did what she does best – hit a long ball – with two runners on for a three-run bid for YH. Young Harris led 8-0 heading into the third.
- For her third RBI of the day, Bailee Brown singled to first base and advanced to second.
- Shelby Duncan knocked in the final run for YH in the bottom of the third after she singled to right center.
- Bailee Brown (3-for-4) and Gracie Hughes (2-for-2) were the offensive weapons in game one, each with three RBI.
- The Mountain Lions had 13 hits through five innings.
- Grace Young added her eleventh win on the year after five innings pitched, four hits allowed, and two strikeouts.
Game 2 (5 innings):
- The Mountain Lions ended game two in five innings as well, defeating Belmont Abbey with a final score of 8-0.
- After a scoreless first, Grace Young (3-for-3) got the ball rolling with an RBI double to right field in the second. This was a long inning for YH, who combined for a total of six runs. Base hits from Bailee Brown (1-for-3) and Avery Fielden (1-for-3) stretched the lead to five, and it was Shelby Duncan who hit a sacrifice fly for the sixth run.
- In the fifth, Grace Young hit her second RBI double in addition to Mallory Clark (1-for-2) hitting a sacrifice fly for the final two runs of the day.
- Grace Young made a statement at the plate as she went 3-for-3 with three RBI.
- Gracie Hughes pitched five scoreless innings allowing no runs on four hits, while striking out five in the win.
