Hard-Fought Season Ends in Duncan: Young Harris Suffers Narrow 2-1 Loss to NGU

Box Score Duncan, SC | Young Harris Softball wrapped up their 2025 season this afternoon after falling short to North Greenville University in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas tournament with a final score of 1-2 (Apr 25th). Bailee Brown knocked in the lone run for the Mountain Lions in the bottom off the fourth with an RBI single through the left side. 
 
The Mountain Lions conclude the 2025 season with an overall 22-23 record and a 13-11 Conference Carolinas record after dropping to North Greenville University in the win-or-go-home round of the tournament.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Both teams had bases loaded opportunities early on – neither were able to capitalize.
  • The fourth inning contained all the offensive action for both squads. In the top of the fourth for the Mountain Lions, Bailee Brown's RBI single through the left side put the first run on the board. 
  • However, Lexie Metcalf launched a two-run home run in the Trailblazer's half of the fourth for the go-ahead run. 
  • Young Harris didn't have a hard time getting base runners, but it was a challenge to bring them in… they left 10 on base. North Greenville had the opposite problem, scoring two runs on three hits. 
  • NGU's Lexie Metcalf was the difference maker in this one – she finished the day 2-for-2 with a run scored, two RBI, and a walk this afternoon. 
  • Grace Young closed out her collegiate pitching career after delivering 6.0 innings, giving up two runs, three hits, and four walks while striking out one. Young finished her 2025 campaign with an impressive 13-4 record in the circle.
  • Sydney Clark was warranted the win after 3.1 innings pitched, allowing no runs and two hits, while striking out two.
  • Two notable hitters for YH this afternoon were Shelby Duncan and Gracie Hughes. Duncan went 2-for-3 with a walk while Hughes finished 2-for-4.
 
UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions will look ahead and begin to prep for the 2026 season, with a group returning a lot of key players and has a ton of room for growth.
