Mountain Lions’ Championship Run Ends After Three Games in Conference Carolinas Tournament

DUNCAN, S.C. | The No. 2 seed Young Harris College softball team saw its Conference Carolinas Championship run come to a close after three games at Tyger River Park, falling to Mount Olive and Southern Wesleyan with a win over North Greenville in between.

Game One: Mount Olive 15, Young Harris 3 (5 innings)

Mount Olive used an 11-run third inning to pull away from the Mountain Lions in a 15-3 run-rule victory on April 23.

Young Harris jumped out early with three runs in the second inning. Bailee Brown drove in a run on a fielder's choice, while two runs scored on an error. Shelby Duncan added a sacrifice fly to give YHC a 3-0 lead.

The Trojans responded with 11 runs in the third inning, all unearned, to take control of the game. Mount Olive added one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth to secure the run-rule win.

Game Two: Young Harris 3, North Greenville 2

Facing elimination, the Mountain Lions responded with a 3-2 win over No. 4 seed North Greenville on April 24.

Young Harris struck first in the opening inning as Mallory Clark drove in Shelby Duncan with an RBI single. The Mountain Lions added another run in the third inning on an RBI single from Gracie Hughes.

North Greenville tied the game in the fifth inning with two runs, but YHC answered immediately. Duncan delivered the game-winning RBI double down the left field line to score Jordan Morris and give the Mountain Lions a 3-2 lead.

Lilly Jones earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs on eight hits over six innings. Julia Moore closed the door in the seventh inning to record her eighth save of the season.

Game Three – Southern Wesleyan 3, Young Harris 2

Young Harris' season came to an end with a 3-2 loss to No. 3 seed Southern Wesleyan later on April 24.

Southern Wesleyan scored two runs in the second inning and added another in the third to take a 3-0 lead.

The Mountain Lions chipped away, scoring one run in the third on an RBI single by Haley Cummings and another in the fourth on a groundout by Cummings that brought home Maddy Brady.

Despite out-hitting Southern Wesleyan 10-6, Young Harris was unable to complete the comeback.
