Clean Sweep: The Mountain Lions Send the Fleet Home in DH Defeat

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Mountain Lions swept the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on April 16th. In game one, Young Harris secured a 13-3 victory, followed by an extra innings 8-7 win. Gracie Hughes is your player of the game with 3 RBI in both matches. The Mountain Lions advance 22-22 overall and 13-11 in Conference Carolinas, while Erskine falls 8-34 overall and 4-20 in the conference.  

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:  

(GAME ONE)  

  • Avery Fielden put Young Harris on top in the 1st with a two-run homer, followed by Gracie Hughes' two-run shot to extend the lead to 4–0. 

  • Erskine got on the board in the 3rd with a double by Payton Rabon, scoring Savanah Koester to make it 7–1. 

  • Jordan Morris advanced to second on a wild pitch in the 3rd, scoring Riley Ratzlaff on another wild pitch. Fielden then drove in Morris for a 9–1 lead.

  • In the 4th, Erskine's Emily Brown singled to score Kennedy Crouch, cutting it to 9–2. Emily Brown advanced on a wild pitch, and Emily Johnson scored on another to make it 9–3. 

  • Young Harris responded with more offense: Morris singled to score Maddy Brady for a 10–3 lead. Brown added an RBI single to score Ratzlaff, and Fielden's two-run double made it 13–3.

(GAME TWO)  

  • Young Harris quickly responded in the bottom half when Jess Jaruszewski reached on an error, scoring Shelby Duncan and tying the game at 1–1. 

  • Erskine regained the lead when Emily Johnson flied out to right field, scoring Amber Clark to make it 2–1. 

  • Young Harris answered in the 3rd, with Jaruszewski grounding out to shortstop, driving in Duncan to tie the game at 2–2. Abby Castleberry then doubled to right-center, bringing in Grace Young to take a 3–2 lead. 

  • In the 6th inning, Erskine's Gabby Burroughs hit a three-run homer to left field, driving in Payton Raybon and Mckinna Taylor to give Erskine a 5–3 advantage. 

  • But the Mountain Lions fought back in the 7th, with Gracie Hughes crushing a two-run homer to left-center, bringing in Shelby Duncan and tying the game at 5–5. 

  • Erskine fought back in the 8th with Gabby Burroughs adding a two-RBI single to center field, scoring Savanah Koester and Emily Johnson, putting them up 7–5. 

  • Young Harris answered quickly in the 8th, as Bailee Brown's sac bunt scored Riley Ratzlaff to make it 7–6. Hughes followed with an RBI single to bring in Maddy Brady, tying the game at 7–7.

Your Mountain Lions will now turn their attention to the Conference Carolinas Championship from April 24th –April 27th in Duncan, South Carolina.
