Young Harris Adds on Late for 9-2 Victory Over Mars Hill

After a four-game home stretch, the Mountain Lions didn’t miss a beat and pick up a 9-2 win over Mars Hill University this afternoon (Mar 4th).

MARS HILL, NC | After a four-game home stretch, the Mountain Lions didn't miss a beat and pick up a 9-2 win over Mars Hill University this afternoon (Mar 4th). Kade Smallwood (2-4, 3 RBIs) and Carlos Martans (2-4, 2 RBIs) had notable days at the plate. On the bump, a combined effort from Ryan Heishman, Ryan Cross, and Sam Neal got the job done.
 
The Mountain Lions advance to 13-6 overall and remain 6-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Lions are 5-15 overall and have a 1-5 record in the South Atlantic Conference.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Mars Hill got the ball rolling early in the first inning. Peyton Starkey knocked in the first run after a ground out, and Walker Fox scored on a wild pitch. The Lions took an early 2-0 lead.
  • Luke Hatcher and Kade Smallwood's (2-4) combined efforts in the fourth put YH on the board. Each had RBI singles, bringing in a collective three runs.  
  • The sixth inning was monstrous for the Mountain Lions. First, Jack Enrico (1-3) made contact at the plate with an RBI single up the middle. Kyle Chatham tacked on a run shortly after with an RBI single to right. Carlos Martans (2-4) and Jonny Smith (3-5) did the rest of the damage with RBI singles as well.
  • Kade Smallwood put the stamp on the game with an RBI double down the right field line in the ninth.
  • Ryan Cross came out of the bullpen and picked up the win this afternoon. On the bump for four innings, he punched out three.
  • Sam Neal closed out the game for YH, continuing his impressive stretch, recording two strikeouts out of his four batters faced. 
  • The Mountain Lions had 12 hits to the Lions eight.
 
UP NEXT: The Mountain Lions return to Zell B. Miller Field this weekend for a three-game series against regionally ranked Conference Carolinas opponent UNC Pembroke (Mar 7th-8th). First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 5PM, and the double-header Saturday is scheduled for 1PM and 4PM.
