Young Harris Splits Doubleheader Against Shorter

ROME, Ga. | The Mountain Lions hit the road to face Shorter University at the Alto Park Softball Complex on March 28th, winning one of two matchups. Game one stretched into extra innings, where the Hawks secured a 7-6 victory with a walk-off three-run homer by Abby Brown. In game two, Young Harris bounced back with a 4-2 win. The Mountain Lions now hold a 14-18 record, while the Hawks stand at 8-23. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

(GAME ONE)

  • Shorter's Rylee Gattis added a point to the board with an RBI single, allowing Ashton Stevens to score.  

  • The Hawks' Abby Brown obtained her first home run with an RBI triple widening the gap 4-0 in the first. 

  • Sydney Pennington grounded out but brought in a run, making it 4-2. 

  • Jaruszewski doubled in the eighth, scoring Riley Ratzlaff to give Young Harris a 5-4 lead. 

  • Mallory Clark followed with an RBI single, extending the lead to 6-4. 

  • Shorter responded in the eighth with a three-run homer from Abby Brown, sealing a 7-6 victory. 

(GAME TWO)   

  • Gracie Hughes extended the lead with a solo home run to make it 3-1. 

  • Shelby Duncan doubled in the fifth, bringing in Morris for a 4-2 advantage. 

  • Shorter University's E. Reyes followed up with an RBI double in the second and A. Hollingsworth hit a solo home run in the third, but it was not enough to close the gap. 

  • Grace Young earned the win, pitching six strong innings, while Hughes secured the save in the final inning. 

  • Young Harris took the victory over the Hawks 4-2.
