Mountain Lions Split Doubleheader in Softball Season Opener

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College softball team made their 2025 season debut this afternoon (Feb. 1) at the YHC Softball Field against Georgia College & State University. Young Harris took game one, winning on an RBI double from Addie Heal; the Bobcats took game two by one run, holding off the Mountain Lions attack late in the game. YHC and GCSU both start their season off 1-1 overall. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

(GAME ONE)

  • Young Harris took game one over Georgia College, 5-4, thanks to an offensive onlsaught in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

  • Gracie Hughes led the charge at the plate, going 2-3 with an RBI double and a two-run homerun. Hughes also earned the win in the circle, putting up 1.1 scoreless innings to close out the game, earning the win. 

  • Grace Young went 1-3 at the plate and knocked in a run on a double. Young also started the game at pitcher for YH, throwing 5.2 innings. 

  • Addie Heal played hero ball in game one, with the game-winning RBI double in the 6th inning to put YHC ahead by one run. 

  • Sydney Lancaster and Caroline Pollock both drove in two runs at the plate for Georgia College. 

(GAME TWO)

  • The Bobcats came out victorious in game two over the Mountain Lions, 5-4. 

  • Jess Jaruszewski drove in all four YHC runs on one swing of the bat in the 5th inning to give the Mountain Lions a great chance. 

  • Karlie Gutierrez and Eliza Kuhne both drove in a pair of Bobcat runs in the contest. 

  • Tiffany Caban went five innings in the circle for GCSU, surrendering four runs, but picking up six K's. 

  • Abby Pendergrass threw 3.2 innings worth of scoreless softball for YH, picking up two strikeouts along the way. 

UP NEXT:
The Mountain Lions return to action on Friday (Feb. 7) evening at the Charger Chillout, for a five-game tournament that runs through Sunday afternoon.
