YOUNG HARRIS, Georgia – Tamara Brito, Connor Johnson, and Lucy Wiegert were named to the 2023-24 Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team. A total of 1,497 women's collegiate golfers from 412 programs recognized with this prestigious honor.
Brito, a Business Administration major from Las Palmas, Spain earned a 3.77 GPA as a Sophomore. Johnson, a Biology major from Dalton, Georgia earned a 3.74 GPA as a Junior. Wiegert, a Sport and Recreation Studies major from Cochran, Georgia earned a 3.94 GPA as a Sophomore.
The Mountain Lions finished in 10th at the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship. Brito had the best performance of the tournament for the Mountain Lions. She finished tied for 11th, carding a 23 over par at the Carolina Country Club. Johnson recorded a 33 over par and tied for 27th in the field. She scored 85, 81, and 83 over the three rounds. Wiegert finished the Conference Championship in a tie for 15th place. Weigert posted a +26 (82, 83, 77) over the three-round event. In the final round, she shot five-over par with 13 pars and a birdie on hole eight.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics and continue to demonstrate the high-level academic achievements of our players. To be selected, a student-athlete must:
- Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
- Be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season.
- Have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.
