NORMAN, Okla. | Mountain Lions men's golf senior Ruben Lindstrom has been named as a Cobalt Golf All-American Scholar for his dedication both on and off the green. Lindstrom performed at his best, when the lights shone their brightest, with one of his best golf matches coming in the Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Tournament in Snow Hill, South Carolina.
In the Conference Carolinas Men's Golf Tournament, Lindstrom started out the tournament with an 80. He caught fire in round two, shooting a -2 (70). Ruben went one under on the front nine and birdied holes one, two, and three. He bookended the back nine collecting birdies on 10 and the par 5, 18th. Lindstrom carded a 74, two over par in the final round.
Ruben, a management major, with a sustainability minor, was exemplary in the classroom as a junior at Young Harris College; where he earned a 3.92 Grade Point Average for the Spring semester, while raising his cumulative GPA to a 3.85.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
226 NCAA Division II athletes from 77 schools earned 2023-24 Cobalt All-America Scholar honors. Missouri S&T had six recipients, tied with Georgia Southern, Mercer, Texas Tech, Yale (NCAA Division I), Trine (NCAA Division III), and Texas Wesleyan (NAIA) for the most recipients from one school across all six divisions in 2023-24. Nine NCAA Division II schools had at least five recipients, including Lincoln Memorial (5), Maryville (5), Missouri S&T (6), Newberry (5), Parkside (5), Saint Leo (5), SWOSU (5), Tiffin (5), and Wingate (5).
