Young Harris, GA| The YHC softball squad took on the King University Tornado on Saturday (Apr. 6) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field in Young Harris. Game one did not go as planned for the Mountain Lions, but they did a full one-eighty in game two to split the doubleheader matchup with the Tornado.
Young Harris moves to 22-16 overall and 9-5 in Conference Carolinas matchups. King University moved to 20-18 overall and 7-5 in conference games. The Mountain Lions return to action on Tuesday (Apr. 9), when they travel to Due West, South Carolina to play the Erskine Flying Fleet in an afternoon doubleheader, with the first pitch coming at 2 p.m.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JESSIE HOMESLEY:
"Conference games are always a battle and I'm proud of the way our team fought to get a win in game two."
Homesley added, "Emma Black shut things down in the 6th and 7th and our offense did a great job of pushing the winning run across in the bottom of the 7th to walk it off.

Game One:

The final score of game one ended 14-4 in favor of King University.

The Mountain Lions fell into an 8-0 hole in the top of the fourth inning, that they could not crawl out of. YHC added two in the bottom of the fourth, off a Grace Young blast into left center field.

Tornado catcher Alyssa Suits dominated, hitting a home run, and tallying four RBIs.

Grace Young ended up 3-3 at the plate, with one HR and 3 RBIs.

YHC was out hit by KU 19-4.

Savana Luper pitched 5.1 innings, surrendered 4 ER, and picked up her 8th win of the year for King; Kylie Ferguson pitched 3.1 innings, gave up 4 ER, and received the loss.
Game Two:

The Mountain Lions came out on top in game two, winning it in the bottom of the seventh inning, 8-7.

Young Harris jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, on a couple of base knocks.

After a scoreless fourth, the Tornado pushed hard in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to cut their deficit to just one run.

In the top of the sixth inning, the King University comeback efforts had succeeded, with Autumn Campbell coming in to pinch run, and ultimately scoring on a YHC error to tie the game at seven apiece.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Gracie Hughes reached on a Tornado fielding error, and found herself on second base with nobody out. Sarah Morris came in to pinch run for YHC, and Addie Heal moved the runner over to third on a sacrifice bunt. Eventually, with one out and a runner on third base, Shelby Duncan came to the plate and watched a wild pitch bounce past the catcher in the dirt, and Morris raced home to win it for the Mountain Lions, 8-7.

Addie Heal, Mo Johnson, and Sammi Martin each finished with a pair of RBIs for YHC, with Heal picking up her two runs batted in via the long ball.

Emma Black came in relief of starter Grace Young and threw 2.1 innings in the circle for the Mountain Lions, giving up just one unearned run, while striking out two Tornado batters, and securing her sixth win of the season.
