MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. | Young Harris Women's Lacrosse lost to Mount Olive 18-7 in the Conference Carolinas Championship game on Saturday afternoon.
Belle Hardwick,
Ella Hancock, and
Abbie Gallagher made the All-Tournament team.
QUOTING HEAD COACH CHRISTINE HATTON:
"Obviously it is not the result we wanted, but we can be proud of how hard we worked to get here. Being new to the conference and making it all the way sets the tone for years to come."
Hatton added, "We are losing a lot of talent with this year's class graduating, but we return a lot of talent as well. I am excited to see where this team is headed."
NOTABLE STATS:
- Mount Olive out shot Young Harris 41-15.
- Ella Hancock led the way on offense for the Mountain Lions and had five points on four goals and an assist.
- Teagan Dunnett lifted Mount Olive to their fourth straight championship. She scored five goals and tacked on two assists for seven points.
- The Warriors controlled 21 draws to the Mountain Lions 7.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Ella Hancock scored four minutes into the game, which tied it at one. From that point on, Mount Olive dominated the quarter. The Trojans rattled off six straight goals to take the 7-1 lead.
- Belle Hardwick scored in the final minute of the first quarter to shrink the deficit to five.
- Mount Olive scored the opening two goals in the second frame. Young Harris responded with two tallies of their own. Ella Hancock found the back of the net, followed by Belle Hardwick. Hardwick's goal got the Mountain Lions back within five, making it 9-4 with 4:25 remaining in the half.
- Mount Olive scored two more goals and held the 11-4 lead going into the break.
- Young Harris outscored Mount Olive 3-2 in the third frame. Ella Hancock scored her 59th and 60th goal of the season and Ally Cattoni fired home a man up, free position goal.
- After 45 minutes of play Mount Olive had the 13-7 advantage.
- The Mountain Lions couldn't find the back of the net in the final frame. The Trojans scored five goals and secured the 18-7 victory.
- Mount Olive captured their fourth straight Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship.
