YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris women's lacrosse sent eight seniors out on top with a 26-2 senior day win over Lees-McRae College.
Belle Hardwick had a great game, scoring four goals and tallying six assists for ten points.
QUOTING HEAD COACH CHRISTINE HATTON:
"It was a great day for our seniors. We did a good job sharing the ball today. The majority of our goals were assisted, including one from a senior defender."
Hatton added, "It is a bittersweet day for the class of 2024, but we are not finished yet!"
The Mountain Lions turn their attention to the Conference Carolinas tournament starting on Monday, April 22
nd. Young Harris is the 3-seed and will host 6-seeded Converse University in the quarterfinals at 6:00 p.m.
NOTABLE STATS:
- Senior Ella Hancock scored a hat trick and tacked on three assists for six points.
- Emily Flynt, Mary Troyer, and Ashlyn Fraley all found the back of the net twice.
- Jaidyn Cochran scored her first goal and tallied her first assist as a mountain lion.
- Senior Defender Gwen Gibbons notched her first career goal.
- McKenna Graf played for thirty minutes in goal and got the win.
- The Mountain Lions out shot the Bobcats 41-5 and held the 20-10 advantage on draw controls.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Belle Hardwick came out firing and scored early and often. She tallied two goals in the first minute and a half. Hardwick added two assists by the 8:04 mark.
- Mary Troyer and Jess Sujishi scored back-to-back goals, which gave the Mountain Lions a 10-0 lead.
- Shannan Korovich put Lees McRae on the board scoring with four minutes left in the first quarter.
- In the second quarter, Riley Parker scored two of the sixth goals for Young Harris. The Mountain Lions took the sizeable 18-1 lead into the break.
- Ashlyn Fraley scored her 53rd career goal at the end of the third quarter. With fifteen minutes to go, the Mountain Lions led 22-1.
- Senior defender Gwenyth Gibbons scored her first career goal with 5:26 seconds left in the game.
- Young Harris claimed the convincing 26-2 victory and sent the seniors out with a win!
