Greeneville, TN| The Mountain Lions softball team played two games on Tuesday (Apr. 16) afternoon in a weekday doubleheader against Tusculum University on the road. Tusculum took game one convincingly, winning 9-0 in five innings and limiting the Mountain Lions to just one hit. Game two was a closer contest, in which YHC got behind early, and fought their way back, but eventually ran out of outs, falling to the Pioneers, 6-3. 

The Mountain Lions drop to 27-19 overall and 14-6 in Conference Carolinas matchups. Tusculum University improves to 26-19 overall this season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Game One: TU 9, YHC 0

• The Pioneers put up nine runs in four innings over the Mountain Lions. 

• Gabi Nicholson, Sammy Jimenez, and Makayla Bush each batted in two runs for Tusculum. 

• Emily Sappington pitched all five innings for the Pioneers, giving up just one hit, while striking out five Mountain Lions, and recording her 11th win of the season. 

• Grace Young picked up the Mountain Lions lone hit in game one. 

Game Two: TU 6, YHC 3

• Tusculum University once again got out to an early lead, this time leading 5-0 after three innings. 

• Hannah Carey hit her thirteenth HR of the season to get the Mountain Lions on the board in the top of the fourth inning. 

• Gracie Hughes batted in a run on a base knock in the sixth inning to get YHC within three runs, but the Pioneers would add one more run in the bottom half of the sixth to reclaim their four-run lead. 

• YHC loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, and Bailee Brown drew a walk to get the Mountain Lions back within three, but the Mountain Lions would unfortunately ground out into a double play to end the game, falling to the Pioneers. 

• Kylie Ferguson, Grace Young, and Emma Black all pitched for the Mountain Lions in game two.

The Mountain Lions return to action on Thursday (Apr. 18) afternoon on the road against Southern Wesleyan University in Central South Carolina for another weekday doubleheader.
