Young Harris, GA| The YHC softball team stays red hot, as they took down Conference Carolinas opponent Southern Wesleyan University in a Friday (Apr. 12) afternoon doubleheader, winning both games by a score of 4-2. YHC has won five straight games as the regular season comes to an end next weekend, the Mountain Lions continue to put themselves in a higher ranking.

"Kylie and Grace did a great job in the circle for us today. With the help of our defense, they were able to keep the game close and give our offense the opportunity to win it."
The Mountain Lions advance to 26-16 and 13-5 in conference play. SWU falls to 17-21 and 7-11 in conference play. Young Harris College returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 13) at 1 p.m. for a Conference Carolinas matchup with Emmanuel University. Senior day ceremonies will begin at 12 p.m. at the YHC Softball Field.

Game 1: YHC 4, SWU 2

Hannah Carey got things started in the bottom of the first inning when she launched a solo homerun (12) into left center field to put the Mountain Lions ahead by one.

The Warriors answered in the top of the second with the tying run coming off the bat of pitcher Olivia Haag.

YHC would add one in the bottom of the fourth and fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead over SWU off a Shelby Duncan RBI single and a bases-loaded walk by Hannah Carey.

Addie Heal blasted her fifth HR of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Mountain Lions on top 4-1.

The Warriors threatened in the bottom of the seventh, adding one run, but ultimately fell short on an unorthodox ground ball double play to seal the deal.

Kylie Ferguson was sharp as a tack, pitching all seven innings for YHC, surrendering just two runs, while striking out six batters. Ferguson earned her fourth win of the season.
Game 2: YHC 4, SWU 2

Southern Wesleyan started early after losing in game one, as the Warriors put up two runs in the top of the first inning; scoring on a passed ball and an Abby Schreiner sacrifice fly.

Sammi Martin and the Mountain Lions answered with a sacrifice fly of her own in the bottom of the second inning to cut the SWU lead to one run.

YHC did not stop there, as they put up a three run third inning to take a 4-2 lead, with Gracie Hughes driving in the initial run, and Sammi Martin driving in two more on an RBI double.

The rest of the game was a stalemate, with both teams going scoreless in the final four innings.

Grace Young pitched all seven innings for YHC, giving up just two runs, while striking out seven Warriors hitters. Young picked up win number seven on the season.
