YOUNG HARRIS, GA| The Mountain Lions stay dominant at home after picking up two more wins this afternoon against the Chowan Hawks (Mar 16th). Zach Murray pitched a complete game despite some miscues from the YHC defense in game one, and five Mountain Lions recorded RBIs in game two.
The Mountain Lions advance to 20-5 overall and are 8-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Hawks move to 6-19 overall and are 2-9 in Conference Carolinas. YHC returns to Zell B. Miller Field tomorrow afternoon at 1PM to face Chowan in game three of the series (Mar 17th).
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Game 1 (9 innings):
· Young Harris topped Chowan 6-3 in game one.
· After a scoreless first inning, the Hawks were the first to strike in the second. They then added two more runs in the third off Mountain Lion errors. Chowan took a 3-0 lead.
· Steven Spell (3-3) answered with a two-run HR. Ethan Stamps (3-4) singled to left field to tie the game at three heading into the fourth.
· The Mountain Lions took advantage of unearned runs as well; James Basham (1-3) came home off a wild pitch for the go-ahead run. Young Harris led 4-3.
· Marco Colina grounded out to shortstop, bringing home Spell in the fifth inning. At this point, Chowan trailed YHC 3-5.
· Ethan Stamps hit a solo shot to right center for the Mountain Lion's sixth and final run.
· Chowan's Geomar Santana finished 3-4 with an RBI at the plate.
· Zach Murray pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts!
Game 2 (7 innings):
· The Mountain Lions top the Hawks with a final score of 9-3.
· Ethan Stamps brings in the first run for YHC with a single through the left side of the diamond in the second inning.
· Young Harris capitalizes on a few wild pitches in the bottom of the third, bringing the score to 3-0. Then, Marco Colina singles to right field to add one more.
· In the bottom of the fifth, Kade Smallwood (1-3) clears the bases with a double down the right field line. Jace Wilson (1-2) puts one through the right side as well to give YHC an 8-0 lead.
· Chowan got their offense going in the sixth inning. Patrick Krack and Tyler West put the bat on the ball to add three for the Hawks.
· Steven Spell (2-3) singles into right field to bring in run number nine for Young Harris.
· Ryan Cross picks up the win after five IP and six K's.
