YOUNG HARRIS, GA. In a competitive conference matchup, the Mountain Lions took two games for the series win over the Barton Bulldogs (Mar 11
th). In game two,
Dylan Beck closed it out on the mound, thanks to a
Mark Castle diving catch to seal the deal for a YHC 6-5 victory over Barton College.
The Mountain Lions advance to 16-5 overall and are 6-3 in Conference Carolinas. The Bulldogs move to 17-5 overall and are 4-5 in Conference Carolinas. YHC returns home this Wednesday (Mar 13
th) where they will take on Lane College in a double-header.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Game 1:
- Young Harris fell 4-1 to Barton.
- Ethan Stamps got the ball rolling for YHC in the bottom of the second, when he blasted a solo HR to left field.
- Tanner Halvorson took the wind out of the Mountain Lions sail, both on and off the mound, picking up a win in 7IP with 12 Ks, and hitting a HR at the plate to tie the game in the top of the third inning.
- Salvatore Laimo led Barton with 2RBIs.
Game 2:
- Young Harris won a close one with a final score of 6-5.
- In the bottom of the first, the Mountain Lions were able to bring home their first run off a few passed balls.
- Evan Harding hit an RBI single to left field to tie the game 1-1 in the second inning.
- After the first batter walked, Tanner Halvorson added on for the Bulldogs with a 2-run HR in the third. Luis Sauri hit a SAC fly to center field to make the score 4-2 Barton.
- James Basham (2-4) singled through the right side in the fourth to knock in a Young Harris run.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Steven Spell (2-3) singled into left field to bring the score even at four. Jack Enrico put the bat on the ball as well, creating a 5-4 lead for YHC.
- Dylan Beck gave the Mountain Lions a huge momentum swing as he was able to get out of a bases loaded situation early in the eighth. Beck picked up seven strikeouts in his outing.
- James Basham homered to left field in the top of the eighth. This was his first HR of the year.
