YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College volleyball completed the comeback on Wednesday afternoon to beat Southern Wesleyan 3-2.
Shelby Mullins had a herculean day, recording 22 kills, 22 points, and a .487 hitting percentage. After suffering the 25-20 loss in set two, the Mountain Lions clawed back and took set four 25-20. Set five was back-and-forth to the end with both teams having match point, but
Kathryn Urbanek's final swing secured the win for YHC.

"We played with such heart and stayed composed today. The team had every opportunity to potentially fold or hand it away, and we didn't. This group stayed together. We worked on our execution, focus, and mentality. I loved our culture, being able to support one another throughout the highs and lows of the game, we were able to weather that storm and play for each other. It was awesome to see."
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Trailing 2-1, Young Harris rallied in the fourth set. The Purple and White capitalized on the service ace from Lyza Thigpen to take the 10-9 lead. YHC rattled off a late 6-1 scoring run and Mullins back-to-back kills won the set, 25-20, forcing the decisive fifth set.
- Young Harris jumped out to the early 3-2 advantage in the fifth set. The Warriors erased the lead quickly with a five-point run that put them ahead 7-5. YHC kept fighting and Thigpen's service ace leveled the score at seven. Late in the set, Megan Gilliland found the hardwood and Faith Paxton recorded a service ace to get the Warriors within a point, 13-12. Michaela Andress connected for consecutive kills that set up match point for Southern Wesleyan. Shelby Mullins slammed one home to keep the match going and logged her 22nd kill of the match on the next point tying the set at 15. Abby Schirm mashed one home to set up match point and Kathryn Urbanek stepped up, swung, and scored, securing the win for the Mountain Lions.
- Shelby Mullins (22), Abby Schirm (17), and Lily Hidalgo (12) led the Mountain Lions offense. Thigpen was the main facilitator, with 62 assists.
- Young Harris dominated the serve with nine service aces compared to Southern Wesleyan's two. Joha Bernis and Lyza Thigpen hit their spots, each collecting three service aces.
- Joha Bernis corralled a match-high 31 digs
- Angel Jimenez was the top performer for Southern Wesleyan registering 15 kills. Sarah Mitchell had five blocks and Katie Fulton posted 30 assists.
