HARDEEVILLE, S.C. | Young Harris College rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth as the Mountain Lions defeated the University of South Carolina-Beaufort 10-8 in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Saturday (April 8) afternoon at Richard Gray Stadium.
With the win, the Mountain Lions clinched the series win against the Sand Sharks and improved to 15-26 overall and to 7-14 in the PBC. USCB fell to 11-31 and 3-18. YHC returns to action Friday (April 14) when they travel to Augusta, Georgia, for a 4 p.m. PBC contest against Augusta University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Hannah Carey gave the Mountain Lions a 1-0 on a sacrifice fly after Addie Heal doubled.
- YHC opened up a 5-1 lead after a four-run third inning. The Mountain Lions scored two runs on wild pitches and Grace Young smacked a two-run homer to right field. It was Young's sixth homer of the season.
- After a rain delay, the Sand Sharks battled back to take an 8-7 lead with a six-run fourth inning, which was highlighted by grand slam from Zinia Hampleton.
- The Mountain Lions tied the game at 8 in the sixth on Gracie Hughes' double to left field. YHC took the lead with two unearned runs on a throwing error by the USCB catcher.
- Young Harris had 10 hits, with Heal leading the way with three. Hughes also collected two hits.
- Jill Dixon (3-3) earned the win with 2.2 innings of scorwless relief. Dixon only allowed one hit while striking out six.
