GREENWOOD, S.C. | Lucas Martino's bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the second inning helped lead Lander University to a 7-4 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Young Harris College Sunday (April 23) afternoon at Dolny Stadium.
The Bearcats improved to 22-24 overall and 15-12 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions, who are 17th in Collegiate Baseball and 11th in the NCBWA polls, fell to 33-14 and 21-9. Young Harris closes out its regular season Tuesday (April 25) with a 3 p.m. game at Zell B. Miller Field against Lee University. The Mountain Lions will recognize their eight seniors prior to the game.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- After Lander took a 2-0 lead in the first, Young Harris tied the game at 2 in the top of the second on James Basham's two-out double to left field. Rome Wallace had led off the inning with a walk and Drew Bray had a double of his own.
- The Bearcats broke the game open with a four-run second, highlighted by Martino's hit.
- Young Harris scored its final two runs in the sixth on back-to-back RBI from Bray and Ahmir Cournier. Bray drove in his run with a single to center, while Cournier had a double to right field.
- Cole Edwards (2-2) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
- YHC had seven hits in the game with Bray collecting two of them.
