YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | No. 24 Columbus State Univesity spoiled Senior Day for Young Harris College as they took a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader Saturday (April 22) afternoon at the YHC Softball Field.
The Cougars improved to 40-12 overall and 23-3 in the PBC after winning by scores of 6-3 and 9-1.The Mountain Lions fell to 18-28 and 10-16. The teams wrap up their regular season with a 1 p.m. game Sunday (April 23).
Prior to the doubleheader, the Mountain Lions honored their five seniors - manager
Bri Harrison, infielders
Shea Bayreuther,
Amber Divine and
Erin Chambliss, and pitcher
Jill Dixon.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
GAME 1
- Bayreuther led off the second inning with a home run to left-center field to cut the deficit to 3-1. It was her second homer of the year.
- YHC scored its final two runs in the seventh. Hannah Carey had a sacrifice fly to center field, while Gracie Hughes added a RBI single through the right side.
- Kylie Ferguson (7-14) took the loss in the circle.
- The Mountain Lions posted eight hits, with Bayreuther collected two of this. Carey added a double for YHC.
GAME 2
- The Mountain Lions didn't get their first hit in the nightcap until pinch hitter Trinity Aycock singled through the left side to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning.Â
- Shelby Duncan added a single to center before Hannah Rizzuto had an RBI single down the left field line.
- Grace Young (4-7) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
