ROME, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's tennis team recorded a 6-1 non-conference victory over Shorter University Wednesday (April 12) afternoon at the Walt Attaway Tennis Complex.
The Mountain Lions, who are No. 45 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association NCAA Division II rankings, improved to 10-7, while the Hawks fell to 2-9. Young Harris will host Georgia College & State University in a 2 p.m. Peach Belt Conference match Friday (April 14) at the Bob & Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex. The Mountain Lions will honor their two seniors -
Janis Auslands and
Gavin Thomas - prior to the match.
INSIDE THE SCORESHEET:
- The NCAA released its second NCAA Division II regional rankings earlier in the day and the Mountain Lions are ranked No. 8. There will be one more regional ranking released next Wednesday (April 19).
- The final selection by the NCAA for regional play will be at 8 p.m. April 24. Eight teams will be selected in the Southeast region for the national tournament. In the Southeast region, the winners from the Peach Belt Conference, South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas tournaments earn automatic berths while the other five will be at-large selections based on the regional rankings.
- Young Harris dropped three games en route to earning the doubles point.
- The Mountain Lions clinched the match with Thomas' 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
